Congratulations to Thomas Ormiston!

Cornwall Community Foundation congratulates Thomas Ormiston, who was awarded the $1,000 Glen McGinnis scholarship!

Our selection committee was so impressed by all the candidates who applied for this scholarship; every one of them exhibited a strong academic record, many athletic accomplishments, and a commitment to making a positive impact on their school and community. It was a difficult decision, but Thomas stood out from his peers and is truly deserving of this award.

A member of the National Honor Society, Thomas excelled in the classroom. He also earned varsity letters in cross country, swimming, outdoor track, and indoor track. As Thomas stated in his application, “Being involved in sports has given me a sense of teamwork and also taught me how to overcome defeat and how you can learn from your failure and then continue to be successful.”

Thomas’s dedication to giving back to his community is truly exceptional. In addition to his work with the National Honor Society, Bethlehem Church, The American Red Cross, and many other organizations in the Cornwall community, last fall Thomas was instrumental in holding a 5k road race to raise money for the Pat Harding Memorial. According to his recommendation letter from Coach Brian Creeden, “Thomas decided that he wanted to honor Pat because of his dedication to the community and to running. Thomas took on the task of starting a road race to raise awareness and money to fight cancer. Thomas worked countless hours to coordinate the many aspects of putting on such a big event, from getting town approval to designing the tee shirts, and everything in-between. When it was finished, Thomas raised more than $13,000 for this great cause and helped the Harding family and the Cornwall community.”

We thank Thomas for all he has done here in Cornwall, and wish him all the best next year as he pursues a Civil Engineering degree at Manhattan College. Congratulations, Thomas!
